Hey everyone, Raj Singh here. Today we’re checking out the brand-new Redmi K90 Max, a gaming-focused flagship killer that could later launch globally as the Poco F8 series. This phone is clearly made for gamers because Redmi has added something you normally only see on expensive gaming phones: an actual cooling fan inside the device.

On top of that, it comes with the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset, the same processor family seen in premium phones like the Vivo X300 lineup. Combine that with a 165Hz AMOLED display, massive battery, stereo speakers tuned by Bose, and aggressive pricing, and this phone suddenly becomes very interesting for mobile gamers.

The base model launched in China for around 3000 Yuan, which converts to roughly $415 USD. Considering the hardware you get, the pricing is surprisingly competitive.

One thing worth noting is that Redmi ships a hard plastic case instead of a silicone one, probably because the cooling fan needs airflow from the rear vent area.

The Silver color variant looks especially premium in person. The phone is also available in Blue and Black.

The Redmi K90 Max definitely looks like a gaming phone without going overboard.

The cooling grille under the camera module gives the phone a unique identity. It honestly looks cleaner than many gaming phones currently on the market.

At 227g, the phone is definitely heavy. If you are used to lighter devices, you’ll notice the weight immediately. However, gamers who already use larger phones like gaming-focused Android devices or Pro Max iPhones probably won’t mind it much.

Cooling Fan Actually Works

The biggest highlight of the Redmi K90 Max is the built-in cooling fan. Unlike some gaming phones, where the fan can be loud and distracting, Redmi’s implementation is surprisingly quiet. You can barely hear it during gaming sessions.

The fan keeps thermals under control extremely well. Even during benchmark tests and extended PUBG gameplay, the phone stayed noticeably cooler than most flagship devices.

This solves one of the biggest complaints people usually have with Media-Tek flagship chips, overheating during heavy gaming.

Display Experience

Display FeaturesDetails
Screen SizeMassive 6.83-inch AMOLED Display
Refresh RateUltra Smooth 165Hz Refresh Rate
ResolutionSharp 1.5K Resolution
HDR SupportDolby Vision + HDR10+ Certified
Peak BrightnessUp to 3500 Nits Peak Brightness
BezelsExtremely Thin & Immersive Bezels

For gaming and media consumption, this display looks fantastic. The high refresh rate makes animations and game-play feel incredibly smooth. PUBG, scrolling, multitasking, and UI transitions all feel very fluid.

However, there is one compromise.

Redmi K90 Max uses an LTPS panel instead of LTPO. That means adaptive refresh rate efficiency is not as advanced as some premium flagship competitors. This is clearly one area where Redmi cut costs. Still, for most users, especially gamers, the display experience remains excellent.

Performance & Benchmarks

Performance is where the Redmi K90 Max becomes seriously impressive.

Specifications include:

  • MediaTek Dimensity 9500
  • LPDDR5X RAM
  • UFS 4.1 storage
  • 12GB or 16GB RAM variants

Benchmark scores were extremely strong

  • AnTuTu: Around 3.6 million
  • Geekbench Single Core: 3137
  • Geekbench Multi Core: 9835

Even more impressive was the thermal stability.

The phone achieved around 66.7% stability during stress testing while staying relatively cool thanks to the internal fan system. Battery drain was also minimal during testing.

For the price, these numbers are honestly impressive.

PUBG Gaming Test

Gaming performance is excellent overall.

PUBG supports:

  • Smooth gameplay
  • 90FPS mode
  • Stable frame delivery
  • Minimal heating

I was hoping Redmi K90 Max would unlock 120FPS support, but currently, the phone maxes out at 90FPS.

Even then, game-play felt smooth and responsive. Touch response is fast, frame pacing is stable, and the large display makes aiming easier during close-range fights.

The cooling fan genuinely helps maintain consistent performance during longer sessions.

If your main priority is gaming performance instead of camera quality, this phone absolutely delivers.

Speakers & Audio Quality

The stereo speakers tuned by Bose are surprisingly powerful.

Audio output is:

  • Loud
  • Clear
  • Rich in bass
  • Great for gaming and movies

Dolby Atmos support also improves the overall experience while watching content or playing games.

For a gaming-focused phone in this price category, the speaker quality is genuinely impressive.

Camera Performance

Camera FeaturesDetails
Main Camera50MP Primary Sensor with OIS Support
Ultra-Wide Camera8MP Ultra-Wide Lens
Front Camera20MP Selfie Camera
4K RecordingSupports 4K Video Recording at 60FPS
8K RecordingSupports 8K Video Recording at 30FPS

The cameras are decent, but definitely not the main focus of this device.

Photos are acceptable in daylight, but detail levels are not flagship-grade. Colors sometimes appear slightly flat and dynamic range can feel average compared to premium camera phones.

However, the selfie camera lacks 4K recording, which feels disappointing at this price. Zoom performance is usable up to around 5X, while higher zoom levels lose detail quickly. Overall, the cameras are fine for casual use, but this is clearly a performance-first smartphone.

Battery Life

Battery life is another huge strength.

The Redmi K90 Max packs a gigantic 8550mAh battery with:

  • 100W wired charging
  • 22.5W reverse wired charging
  • 22.5W reverse wireless charging

Battery backup is excellent, especially combined with the efficient Dimensity chipset and active cooling system. Heavy gamers will appreciate how long this phone lasts during extended sessions.

Final Verdict

The Redmi K90 Max feels like a true gaming flagship killer.

If your priority is gaming, performance, battery life, and sustained thermal control, the Redmi K90 Max is easily one of the most interesting phones in its price segment.

There are rumors this device could launch globally under the Poco branding sometime around June or July, although nothing is officially confirmed yet.

For gamers, this phone looks extremely promising.

⚠️ Things That Could Be Better

  • Heavy Design may not suit everyone for daily usage
  • LTPS Instead of LTPO means less efficient adaptive refresh rate

Is the Redmi K90 Max worth buying?

Yes, if you want flagship-level performance without spending ultra-premium flagship money. The phone focuses heavily on gaming, battery life, and display quality.

How is the gaming performance on the Redmi K90 Max?

The Redmi K90 Max handles heavy games smoothly with stable FPS performance, fast touch response, and efficient cooling. It is built for gamers and power users.

Does the Redmi K90 Max overheat during gaming?

In most gaming tests and early impressions, the cooling system performs well. The phone may get warm during long gaming sessions, but thermal throttling appears controlled.

Is the Redmi K90 Max camera good?

The camera is good for casual photography and social media uploads. Daylight shots look detailed, but the phone prioritises performance more than flagship-level photography. Not recommended for the moderate camera.
